Forgiveness and the Lord's Table

We are called to forgive others because God first forgave us. There is nothing that God cannot forgive you for when you ask for forgiveness with a contrite heart. Jesus, David, and Stephen are all examples of people who forgave those who persecuted, attempted/completed murder of them. If they can forgive those who tormented and murdered them, how can we not forgive those whose transgressions against us are so "small" in comparison? It is hypocritical to receive God's forgiveness and to not extend forgiveness to those who ask it of you.
