Humble Before God

Humility before one another in the church arises from humility before God. This is evident from the imperative of I Peter 5:5, "clothe yourselves with humility toward one another," being followed in 5:5 by, "Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God,.." The significance of the "mighty hand of God" is considered along with the "casting all your anxiety upon Him" (5:7) as the manner of humbling oneself under God's mighty hand of providence.
