The Blood of Cleansing
Series Maundy Thursday Service
Aim: Revel in the gospel of Christ's grace and love.
Exegesis: The blood of cleansing is typified in our baptisms. Christ cleanses us from the world (vv. 24-25a) and from ourselves (v. 25b). The blood of cleansing fulfills the new covenant, putting the law (v. 26) and the Spirit (v. 27) of God within us. The blood of cleansing brings us continual blessing. We are owned (v. 28) and sustained (v. 29a) by God.
Key verse: v. 25 ''Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols.''
