Theology Class #3 - The Trustworthiness and Credibility of Scripture

The Scriptures themselves are a revelation to us.

We learn about sin and the need of a salviour through the Scriptures

The Bible is not a book of fiction – It is a book of God’s Inspired truth. Scripture is trustworthy and credible

The Words of God are accurate in every discipline on which They touch.

The Scriptures can not be broken.

Archaeologists time and time again verify that the Scriptures are true,

Bancroft notes that all of the 41 kings mentioned from the time of Abraham to the close of the OT Cannon are proved to be genuine.

We are reminded again of how Diocletian attempted to destroy all copies of the Bible

**Doctrinal Statement: The truthful content of the Scripture has been fully proved by an appeal to secular records and to actual facts revealed by scientific research (Bancroft, 29).

The walls of Jericho have been discovered

Bancroft writes, “By the inspiration of the Scriptures is meant that the writers were so empowered and controlled by the Holy Spirit in the production of the Scripture as to give Them divine and infallible authority” (Bancroft, 29).

“The Scriptures are distinguishable from all human productions in that they possess characteristics which made necessary their classification as supernatural and divine” (Bancroft, 30).

Melchizedek name is mentioned in the Tel el-Amarna tablets (Bancroft, 30).

Exodus 5:7 states, “Ye shall no more give the people straw to make brick, as heretofore: let them go and gather straw for themselves.

Not that is necessary, but archeologists have discovered the absents of straw in brick at Tel-el-Kebir (Bancroft 31).
