Our Former Bondage

"By the grace of God, I am not what I used to be," (John Newton). Neither are you if you are a true Christian. OUR ALIENATION FROM GOD (v.1) - We were "dead in trespasses and sins," that is, spiritually dead. OUR SUBJUGATION BY OTHERS (vv. 2-3b) - We walked according to, under the control of, three powerful and pernicious influences -- the world, the devil, and the flesh. OUR IDENTIFICATION WITH THE DAMNED (v. 3c) - True believers, before converted, have God's wrath settled upon them, and they deserve to go to hell as much as anyone else.
