The exponents of tongues in the modern church often claim that tongue speaking is ecstatic and cannot be controlled - to do so, they claim is to try to 'Quench the Spirit' as is any attempt to bring a set order to the worship service.

Scripture on the other hand tells us that the Tongue Speakers and Prophets in the Apostolic church WERE able to remain silent and that the Prophets were able to control their prophesying in order that all things be done decently and in order.
