Sons of Abraham: Free or Enslaved?

Who is your spiritual mother? In Gal 4:21-31 Paul shows the significance of Abraham's expulsion of Hagar & Ishmael in Gn 21. The Judaizers, who made claims to be the sons of Abraham, had better determine, not who their father is, but who their mother is: Sarah or Hagar. It is possible to be a son of Abraham - in the same way as Ishmael was a son of Abraham! The Christian, like Isaac, is a spiritual son of Abraham. But those outside of Christ, like Ishmael, are not heirs, but stand outside of saving grace. As Ishmael who persecuted Isaac, so too today: those born after the flesh persecute those born after the spirit. But only those born of the Spirit are free.
