Should Rulers Support True Religion?

A heathen King hears God's servant warn of Judgment and not only humbles himself but commands his people to fast and pray. It seems so far removed from the way people view leadership in the family or in nations. Should he have commanded the people and how do his actions provide lessons for fathers, rulers, and all in authority today?
