Psalm 11

Psalm 11

To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David

I. Faith not Flight (11.1-2)

A. Flight is a natural response to danger.

B. Faith must come first for the godly. (Ecclesiastes 3.1-2, Matthew 24.15-16, John 18.11).

II. Firm foundations (11.3-4

A. Firm foundations are important in life. (Matthew 7.24b-25).

B. When the foundations are gone, all is gone. (11.3, Lamentations 1.1-2).

C. The foundation that matters always remains. (11.4). Here are 3 things to encourage us concerning the heavenly throne.

(i) God's throne is a throne of 'glory' (Isaiah 6.3).

(ii) God's throne is a throne of 'government'. (Psalm 103.19).

(iii) God's throne is a throne of 'grace'. (Lamentations 3.22-24).

III. Favour or Fire (11.5-7)

Scripture always emphasizes but two outcomes, salvation or ruin. (11.5-7). Each one of us is challenged.

Conclusion

'In singing this psalm we must encourage and engage ourselves to trust in God at all times’. (Matthew Henry)
