Our Lord, Come! And In the Meantime...

As Paul concludes his letter to the Corinthian church he exclaims, "Marana-tha!" This is an Aramaic phrase meaning “Our Lord, come!”.

Paul’s theology was never shared for merely academic or informational purposes. In this letter he has laid out an explicit theology of Christ’s resurrection from the dead and eventual return; and the only valid response to such a truth is: “Our Lord, come!” …and a life that reflects this anticipation of Christ's return.

After a letter full of admonition, instruction, and practical counsel – Paul sums it all up by expressing his yearning prayer for Christ's return, as well as how we ought to live in the meantime: 1) the kind of Christian we ought to be, 2) the kind of people we ought to follow, and 3) the kind of church we ought to be.
