Three Visitors at Mamre and Intercession for Sodom
Series Study in Genesis
Mr. Wagner studies the theophany at the oaks of Mamre. Abraham bows before three visitors, exercises Middle-Eastern hospitality, and hears again the now-specific promise — by this time next year Sarah shall have a son. Sarah's derisive laugh from the tent door is rebuked, yet Hebrews 11 still credits her with faith. Two of the visitors turn toward Sodom while the LORD remains, and Abraham presses in: shall not the Judge of all the earth do right? The class follows the descending negotiation from fifty to ten and dwells on the marvel that the holy God of Genesis 17 invites the dust-and-ashes patriarch to intercede — a pattern of Christ's mediation and a model of bold prayer for a perishing world.
