LIAR, LUNATIC, OR LORD?
PART 2: A DESTINY TO KEEP
TEXT: Mark 3:20-35

SUMMARY: The responses to Christ during His earthly ministry, often repeated today in the response to Christ's disciples, go to the heart of man's natural enmity against God, and Jesus' response to them gives both words of comfort and words of warning.

I. A DECISION TO MAKE, vv. 20-22, 31-35. In this passage, some who encountered Jesus considered Him to be too zealous, too ambitious, or too narrow.
A. First Group, vv. 20-21: "You are too ___________."
B. Second Group, v. 22: "You are too ____________."
C. Third Group, vv. 31-35: "You are too ____________."

II. A DESTINY TO KEEP, vv. 22-30
A. God's Grace is Extended;
B. Satan's Motives are Exposed;
C. A Mystery of Sin and Forgiveness is Revealed. Theories of the unpardonable sin:

  1. First theory: a sin of compounding.

  2. Second theory: a sin of attribution.

APPLICATION.
A. The grace of God has been sufficient even for great sinners.
B. The grace of God to an individual may in time be exhausted.
C. Jesus' words are given as a warning and not as an inalterable fact.
