To This You Were Called

In this passage, Peter expounds on why we should patiently endure suffering, because it declares what Jesus Christ did by dying on the cross. He submitted to an unrighteous authority that was in clear rebellion to God who judged a perfectly innocent man guilt and gave Him heinous unjust punishment. Christ's behavior in that situation was commendable to God the Father, because Christ did not appoint Himself the avenger (although He will have that role in the second coming). Instead, He committed Himself to Him who judges righteously. He submitted when He could have easily overcome worldly powers, because He understood that there was a purpose for His suffering for by His strips we are healed. He understood the bigger picture that His sacrifice was the means that we die to sin and live for righteousness. When we suffer, we are to endure it patiently, because when we suffer for righteousness sake, we establish a testimony that this world is not our hope.
