The Sabbath Day: Burying the Blessing

Jesus is the Lord of the Lord of the Sabbath and the One who brings the New Creation to its Sabbath rest.
Jesus is moving toward this controversy. There is a certain reluctance in this man to be healed. But Jesus told him to take up his palate. Immediately he picked up his palate and walked. This took place on the Sabbath Day. Jesus wants to take the smoke for this act of healing. He is on a Divine mission. He was there to make known His Divine glory. Here is here to save His people and to show how He is able to save them, because of who He is. Jesus is breaking the Sabbath code of the Jews. And a couple questions rise from the text here: What is the Sabbath and when was it given? Sabbath means to cease from ordinary activity. It was given at Creation. The first consideration of its nature is that the Sabbath is eschatological. It looks out to something beyond its initial mandate. God created and then rested as the King of His creation. And now, essentially, what is saying is - You do the same Adam. Adam was to work and then to enter into that enthroned rest, to that eternal state. But we know that he failed. He fell short of Sabbath rest. And all of us, along with him, have fallen. And we have been looking for the Seed of the Woman to bring us into that rest. They were waiting. For Christ who would bring it.
