The Secret of Strength

Aim: To understand that all our spiritual strength comes from God.

Doctrine: The world desires to sever us Christians from our (secret) source of strength. Unbelievers conceive of our strength in merely human terms, not grasping that it is a supernatural gift from God.

Exegesis: Characteristics of the believers' secret of strength: it is not extinguished by the flesh (vv. 1-3); it is feared by the world (vv. 4-9); it cannot be contained by any sinful agency (vv. 10-14).

Further application: How the church is to tap into our source of secret strength: through our faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, which causes us to seek Him—employing God's means of grace.
