Why God Humbles Us

Aim: To be brought to a fresh appreciation of the Christ of the gospel.

Exegesis: God humbles us to reveal our hearts. This shows us our need for Jesus (v. 1) and our love for Jesus (v. 2). God humbles us to teach our hearts complete dependence on Christ (v. 3) and complete trust in Christ (vv. 4-5). God humbles us to bless our hearts so that we may enjoy Him (vv. 6-9) and praise Him (v. 10).

Key verse: v. 3 ''So [God] humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the LORD.''
