Rule 11: Persevering in Adversity
Series Duties of Christian Fellowship
Believers are called to cheerfully accept the appointed circumstances of their local church—whether in times of prosperity or affliction—without withdrawing from fellowship, as faithfulness to Christ is demonstrated through steadfast commitment to His body. This principle is grounded in Scripture, which portrays genuine faith as enduring hardship, persecution, and trial, not abandoning the church when it becomes costly. The New Testament consistently warns against temporary faith, exemplified by those who fall away under pressure, while affirming that true believers persevere in love and unity, even when suffering for Christ's sake. The motivation for such loyalty includes the sacred value of the church's ordinances, the danger of backsliding into unbelief, and the harm caused to the church's unity and witness when members desert during trials. Ultimately, this rule calls Christians to imitate God's faithfulness, to reject worldly comfort in favor of eternal reward, and to remain united with the body of Christ as a testimony to the world.
