1 John 3.1-18
Righteous

By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another [John 13.35]

A. WE ARE NOW CHILDREN OF GOD

1.  We are children of God  [1]
2.  We will be transformed  [2]
3.  We purify ourselves  [3]

B. CHILDREN OF GOD DO WHAT IS RIGHT

1.  Righteousness

    a.  Characterizes every child of God  [2.29]

    b.  To be taken seriously  [1.6, 8]

2.  Sin

    a.  Sin is lawlessness  [4-6]

        1)  Christ appeared to take away our sins

            He appeared
            He is righteous
            He takes away our sin

        2)  Children of God will not continue to sin

            b.  Sin is doing the will of the devil  [7-10]

                1)  Christ appeared to destroy the work of the devil

                2)  Children of God will not continue in sin           

C. DOING WHAT IS RIGHT IS LOVING ONE ANOTHER

      Transition:  righteousness demonstrated by loving others  [10-11]

      1.  Think about Cain:  a man who killed his brother  [12-15]

               Hatred is a mark of the world


      2.  Think about Christ:  a Man who laid down his life for His brother  [16-18]

               Love is the mark of the Christian
