Indifference Towards Idolatry
Series Survey of Judges
In what forms an epilogue to the book of Judges, chapters 17-21 reveal the spiritual decadence and moral decay that has pervaded the nation of Israel.
Insight into personal situations reveal the spiritual condition of the nation. It becomes apparent spiritual syncretism is commonly practiced among the Israelites. Israel is still religious and worshiping, but they have turned their devotion to the man-made gods created by the pagan nations. Their desire to be like the people of the nations around them will lead to spiritual decadence and destruction - as it continues to down to today. God's people have been called out from the world and set apart to Him and for Him. To indulge in any of the worship and religion centered on anything or anyone other God Himself will always lead to spiritual decline and downfall.
Several valuable lessons for us today come from this study:
- Parents sometimes provide their children with corrupted worship.
- Good intentions can corrupt the worship of God.
- We like to make our own gods and worship to our own liking.
- Religious syncretism always leaves you with error.
- It is the responsibility of leaders to lead biblically.
- False worship is self-centered and self-seeking.
