The madness of the heart

We have recorded in this event a divine truth which countless people continue to this day to reject and deny; that being, the gret sinfulness and depravity of the unconverted heart.

Left to himself, the unconverted sinner will always choose sin. There must need be a work of divine grace within the heart first. This effectual working of grace can only be done by the "power of the Gospel," which alone in the power of God to save.

Like the crowd before Pilate, man left to himself will always choose "Barabbas" (Sin) over Christ.

Yet, there is another blessed truth found in this event. Namely, the doctreine of "Substitution." The guilty, condemned criminal is acquiited and released, while the innocent Lamb of God is condemned. Praise God for such a glorious salvation in Christ!
