The Incomparable Christ - Part Six

We have before us the most perfect poem in any language. It is an inspired love poem. We can and should learn from it how to “keep the honey in the honeymoon.” Both passion and purity are found here.
In the absence of her beloved due to her own sloth, the Shulamite now yearns for his presence. For her, “absence only makes the heart grow fonder.” In answering the “daughters of Jerusalem,” she is excited to enthusiasm, as those deeply in love invariably are. She breaks out into impassioned praise of the charms of her Beloved. “What is my beloved, do you ask? Ohhh – let me tell you!”
As she nears the end of her ten-fold description, she goes from the particular to the general, extolling his overall countenance and finally exclaiming, “yea, he is altogether lovely”! (v. 16). Do we see the same surpassing loveliness in Jesus, the Lover of our souls? Are we as eager to brag on Him?
