Waiting For The Consolation Of Israel, Part 1

One of the sayings that came out of World War II was, "hurry up and wait." The soldier's life was often characterized by an artificial sense of urgency. Certainly, the issues at stake were enormous but men were often rushed to a particular place and then they had to wait for transportation or some other logistical reason. It made the soldiers wonder what all the rush was about since they were now just sitting around. The warfare initiated in the Garden also had a sense of urgency, but this sense of urgency was very real. Mankind was plunged into sin, darkness and hopelessness and the arrival of the promised Savior was anxiously anticipated. Many years had passed since the Fall and the Savior had not yet appeared. In His mercy, God revealed over time the circumstances of the Savior's coming. Our text today is one of those revelations.
