Christ's Humiliation: God became Man (Incarnation)
Series Philippians 2017-18
Continuing to follow Christ's humiliation downward in Phil 2:6-8, we second looked at Christ, who though in very nature God, not only condescended to take the nature of a bondservant, but humbled Himself to become man in His incarnation. He became in the likeness of men....found in appearance as a real man. Though His divine nature had no beginning, His human nature does have a beginning, that He might be God and man in two distinct natures in one Person forever.
After explaining the incarnation in terms of the Scripture and the Baptist Confession, the Baptist Catechism is used to further describe Christ's humiliation.
Q30: Wherein did Christ’s humiliation consist?
A30: Christ’s humiliation consisted in His being born, and that in a low condition, made under the law, undergoing the miseries of this life, the wrath of God, and the cursed death of the cross; in being buried, and continuing under the power of death for a time.
