THE MARVELS ASSOCIATED WITH CALVARY.Matt. 27:45-56;Lk.23:39-43While Christ hung on the cross, some miraculous events happened which demonstrated perfectly that the cross was a triumph, not a tragedy. The cross was the Messiah's great triumph. Six events show this clearly. 1. THE MARVELS OF THE SUN. Matt. 27:45. 2. THE MARVELS IN THE SANCTUARY. Matt. 27:51. 3. THE MARVELS OF THE STONES. Matt. 27:51,54. 4. THE MARVELS OF THE SEPULCHERS. Matt. 27:52-53. 5. THE MARVELS OF THE SOLDERS. Matt. 27:54 6. THE MARVELS OF SALVATION. Luke 23:39-43. The Marvels of the Sun: Darkness covered the land from the sixth hour to the ninth hour during Jesus' crucifixion. The Marvels in the Sanctuary: The veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom, signifying the end of the need for the Holy of Holies. The Marvels of the Stones: The rocks rent and cried out, proclaiming Jesus as the Son of God. The Marvels of the Sepulchers: The graves were opened, and many bodies of the saints arose after Jesus' resurrection. The Marvels of the Soldiers: The centurion and those with him witnessed the earthquake and the events surrounding Jesus' death, causing them to fear and declare Jesus as the Son of God. The Marvels of Salvation: One of the criminals crucified with Jesus rejected Him, while the other recognized his own guilt and asked Jesus to remember him when He comes into His kingdom. Jesus assured the repentant criminal that he would be with Him in paradise.
