Jesus, High Priest of a Better Covenant

Main Idea:

We have Jesus, the High Priest of a better covenant!

• He is seated at the right hand of the throne of Majesty (1)
• He is a minister in the heavenly sanctuary (2)
• The true tent that the Lord set up
• And not man

• He (as a High Priest) must have something to offer (3)
• Every High Priest offers up gifts and sacrifices
• Jesus offered himself up (7:27)

• He cannot be a Levitical priest (4-5)
• They offer gifts according to the law (4)
• They serve a copy & shadow of heavenly things (5)
 “A pattern of a pattern” (5)
 Moses saw a pattern of the Tabernacle
 Tabernacle was a pattern of the sanctuary

• He has a more excellent ministry (6)
• The new covenant He mediates is better
• The new covenant is enacted on better promises

Applications

We must not abandon faith in Jesus—our Great High Priest!

We must persevere to the end in faith, love, and obedience!
