The Historic Role of Music and Instrumentation In Worship

We should try very hard to make sure that those thing we are willing to fight over are actually Doctrinal, Theological, and Biblical watershed's, and not our own personal legalistic whims, wants and desires and opinions.
If you cannot back up your desires or whims or opinions with Scripture, and I mean book chapter and verse, then don't you dare try to make a legalistic stand on your opinion, because at that moment you show that you are esteeming yourself above men and God.
Right out of the gate, I want to explain our view of Music, it's function and purpose.
We do not believe that music is always necessary, but it is commanded as an avenue of worship of God.
We believe that all music that is sung in the church must meet six criterion.

  1. All music Must be Glory of God focused.
  2. All music Must be Theologically, Doctrinally, and Biblically accurate.
  3. All music Must be Bible rich or saturated.
  4. All music should be astheticly pleasing to the largest possible audience and appropriate for each given situation.
  5. All music Must be presented by those with a sound testamony and who are in good standing with the church.
  6. All music Must be approved and vetted on the above criterion and any music that is known to come from groups or individuals that are clearly not of Christ, or that are secular in nature must be avoided (an example is Phillips, Craig and Dean, or Jesus Culture, Do you remember Ray Boltz?). Remember that our view is The Biblical Principle of Balance.
