In Christ we have Grace and Peace
Sermon 4 in the Philippians Series

Philippians 1:1-2

I. Paul and Timothy v. 1

II. All the saints – with the Bishops and Deacons v. 1
-- Bishop = episcopos = overseer
-- Pastor = poimen = shepherd
-- Elder = presbuteros – usually appears in the plural

III. In Christ – v. 1; Ephesians 1:3-14

You can see the Christ-centered thinking of Paul in just these two verses.
-- Jesus Christ
-- Christ Jesus
-- The Lord Jesus Christ.

Ephesians 1:3-14

v. 3 governs all of what follows in verse 4-14.
v. 4-6 -- Believers are chosen IN CHRIST
v. 7 – The most precious promise in all of Scripture.
v. 8-10 – Revealing the mystery
v. 11-12 – The doctrine of election and God's absolute sovereignty
v. 13-14 – The capstone of this great sentence regarding redemption.

IV. Grace and Peace – v. 2; Rev. 1:4-6

Grace is a form of a Greek greeting – while peace is more Hebrew.
Paul generally links both together when greeting the churches.
		
Revelation 1:4-6

1.  John expresses the grace and peace as coming from the Godhead.
2.  A further description of the Son  v. 5b
	a)   He is the faithful witness
	b)  He is the firstborn from the dead
	c)  He is ruling and reigning
3.  His work on our behalf  v. 5c-6
	a)  He loves us – and how does He express that love?
	b)  He is a priest and a king.
	c)  He makes His people kings and priests
