Stand Firm in the True Grace of God

To "stand firm in the true grace of God" could appropriately be the designated the theme of 1 Peter (and the whole NT). The term "grace" has varied meanings in the NT. Grace, although it is the free gift of God, does not negate the imperatives (commands) in the Bible, but is rather a motivation to do them. In spite of all the difficulties that life brings us, the free grace of God is the secret way he brings sinners such as us into his everlasting kingdom.
