So You're A King?

When Pilate asks Jesus if he's the King of the Jews, Jesus doesn't say "yes" or "no." He answers, "You have said so." So is Jesus a King, or isn't he? Why does he answer ambiguously?

Why does Pilate condemn Jesus to die when he clearly recognizes his innocence? And why does he release a guilty revolutionary who deserved his punishment?
