Plagues Not Sent for the Godly
Series Psalms
Psalm 91 is meant to reassure the righteous in times of calamity and pestilence. The central message is this: The plague is not for you. It is a recompense to the wicked. Can born again Christians apply this and claim it amidst today's coronavirus scare? Does Psalm 91 apply to us today? Was it just for the Jews? How could they have derived comfort from it in light of their own history, when God so often sent plague among them, killing thousands? If Christians cannot claim this passage today as a solid basis for comfort against the corona-virus, then when can we? What conditions have to be met before this passage is allowed to say anything to us? Open your heart, open your mind, and let God speak to you through this text. Let Him bring you comfort through it. That is why it was written.
