Scripture Memory

Peter was emphasizing the importance of hiding the words of Holy Scripture in the heart. As he had said in Chapter 1, his ministry was not about that which was novel. He wanted to go over the same things that the people already knew simply because they would tend to forget them. He was stressing here the importance of remembering all the words that the prophets and the apostles had written down. The text is important in understanding the orthodox doctrine of the inspiration of the Scriptures, and in understanding the impact that the words of Scripture must have upon the believers who memorize them. They are the words that guard against the ideas of universalism and spiritual tolerance of that which is perverse.
