Elisha's Ministry of Miracles

Four miracles performed by Elisha during the course of his ministry are recorded in these chapters.

First involved the impoverished widow of one of the 'sons of the prophets. She was provided with enough oil for own needs and enough surplus to sell and pay off her debts.

Next involved an unnamed Shunammite woman who had went out of her way to provide Elisha and his servant with food and shelter whenever they traveled in her area. Having no children, she was given the ability to conceive and have a son. When that child suddenly died, Elisha restored the boy.

Next, during a time when there was famine in the land, Elisha purified what was a deadly stew for the 'sons of the prophets' that had been poisoned by some unfamiliar ingredient, probably used because of the scarcity of food.

And in chapter five, he healed the leprosy of Naaman, a leader in the Syrian army.

Observations from this study include:

  1. God is sovereign and all-powerful.
  2. God graciously provides for the needs of His people.
  3. God's power is seen in difficulties.
  4. We may not understand God's purposes.
  5. Wash and be clean!
  6. Be careful of covetousness.
