Cleanse Your Heart_11
Series Dwelling Richly (Colossians)
Cleanse Your Heart. Colossians 3:5-11KJVIn this message, we are reminded that while Christians live in the world, we are not to let the world live in us. The distinction between the believer and the world has become blurred, and Paul's message in Colossians 3:5-11 calls us to spiritual cleansing.Paul urges us to "put to death" the sinful nature within us—those desires and behaviors that do not align with a life surrendered to Christ. He warns against the dangers of undisciplined desires (sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, and greed), which lead to idolatry and bring God's wrath. These sins, once part of our old life, must be removed as we walk in newness with Christ.Beyond sinful desires, Paul also calls for the removal of unholy temperament, including anger, rage, and malice, which can corrupt our character and witness. Additionally, he highlights the need to cleanse our untamed speech, warning against slander, filthy language, and lying—behaviors that damage relationships and dishonor God.Finally, Paul challenges us to rid ourselves of unwarranted prejudice, emphasizing that in Christ, all barriers—racial, social, and cultural—are broken. Our identity is now found in Him alone, and we must live as new creations, reflecting His image.Because Christ is renewing us daily, we should willingly cast off anything that hinders our spiritual growth. Cleansing our hearts is not just about what we remove, but about embracing the new life God has called us to—one of holiness, truth, and unity in Christ.Challenge for Reflection:What areas of your life need to be cleansed so that Christ may dwell richly within you?
