Jesus' Condemnation of the Religious Leaders - Part 3

Jesus’ last public address:

First, the warning to the disciples and crowds, 1-12

The scribes and Pharisees were:

#1: Control-seekers, 3-4

#2: Praise-seekers – 5

#3: Pre-eminence-seekers, 6-7

Jesus commanded the people and the disciples:

#2: Don’t recognize pre-eminence in others, 9

#3: Don’t place yourselves above others but instead serve them, 11-12

Second, the denunciation of the scribes and Pharisees, 13-36

The scribes’ and Pharisees’ hypocrisy resulted in:

#1: False salvation, 13

How the scribes and Pharisees blocked the people from salvation:

A. By their doctrine

B. By their lives

C. By their hatred

How one enters the kingdom, the narrow gate of salvation:

#1: By believing God is holy

#2: By believing every one of us is a sinner condemned to an eternity in hell because of our sin

#3: By believing we are helpless to save ourselves

#4: By believing Jesus Christ is our only hope of salvation
