Believe, Be Baptized and Belong: Believe
What is it we believe and witness to in Baptism? It isn't believing that Jesus died for me. In the few accounts we have of those who were baptized, we are not left with the impression that this was the first thing to be believed or witnessed to in baptism.
Those baptized no doubt had the assurance which generally accompanies faith, but, that faith was in the first place marked by affirmations and assertions and was of a kind that look away from the candidate
