Guidance By The Unseen Hand

The transition in tone from Chapter 1 to Chapter 2 is unmistakable as the existence of a relative who could help Naomi and Ruth is introduced into the narrative. From this point, Ruth becomes the focal character in the story, and Naomi fades into a secondary position. We learn about Ruth here that the impact of the Holy Spirit's work in her life was that she treated Naomi with the greatest courtesy and deference, and that she was possessed as well of a great sense of industriousness and virtue. But above all, we learn that Ruth was being led, unknown to her, by the hand of God so that she would be in just the right place at just the right time.
