Using God?

This passage addresses the spiritual problem of men seeking to use God as their servant by spiritual activity.

I. Exposition:

  1. Micah's idolatry (vv. 1-6).

  2. Micah's priest (vv. 7-13).

The climax of Micah's false spirituality is expressed in v. 13: 'Now I know that the LORD will be good to me, since I have a Levite as a priest.'

II. Application:

  1. Do you demonstrate a tendency to want to do spiritual things in your way rather than God's way?

  2. When you consider what it means to worship God, do you think more about pleasing yourself or pleasing God?

  3. Are you, like that young Levite, a spiritual vagabond, rootless and restless?

  4. Have you, like Micah, believed that you might manipulate God to bless you by your spiritual activities?

Finally, in the priest from Bethlehem we see a foreshadowing of Christ, the perfect priest whose will was always one with God the Father.
