English Scriptures for English Readers

The opening message in this year long series deals with the historical background of the Authorized Version, focusing especially on the work of John Wyclif and William Tyndale and the English versions that followed Tyndale's translation. Ultimately came the conference called by King James I in 1604 that produced the first edition of the Authorized Version. The message also provides an introduction to the king's interest in the project as well as to the style of language that the translators determined to use. Last of all, there are some introductory remarks to the idea of the legacy of the AV in the English speaking world.
