In Contention for the Worst

The church at Laodicea not only had the gospel brought to them but also had great exposure to serious doctrine. They, however, had become a comfortable, complacent, stale church. The majority of the congregants were unbelievers who were uncommitted being Christians in name only. Success, prosperity, and material wealth can give the false impression that as life goes well in temporal matters so too does the spiritual. This church, as many today, were under sadly and seriously delude into think they had all they needed when in actuality they were in great spiritual need. Nonetheless, the Lord of the church offers what is needed to those who will humble themselves and heed His call.
