The Bruised Saint & The Silent Heaven - Part 23
Series Trusting in God's Sovereignty
Job is yet again in the darkest moment and time in his life. Herein lies a raw response and lament directed at his friends, yet relying on God's Sovereignty. Thus; 1) The crushing weight of misery (16:1 – 14). This misery is motivated by the futility and failure of human comfort (1 – 5) and his sense of divine hostility (6 – 14). 2) the cry for a heavenly witness (16v15 – 21). Undergirding his cry was – his expressed humility before God (15 -17) and longing for a mediator, to vindicate his innocence (18–21). Regardless all this; Job is conscientious of the certainty of the hovering shadow of death (16v22). 3) the collapse of earthly hope (17v1 – 16). a) Job's despair and mockery from his friends (1 – 10) and b) Job's sense of descension toward the grave (11–16). Therefore, like Job's sincere brokenness before God amidst adversities, so should we be before God. Fixing our rawness of lament upon His; yet, reverently relying upon His Sovereignty and humbly accepting His varied providences for our growth in grace and sanctification.
