The LBCF of 1689 - Ch 5, Para 1, Part 4

  1. Providence is always directed by the Decree.
o Bright Providences (prosperity and success) are generally the rewards of faith and obedience. Dark Providences (adversity and failure) are generally the chastening result of unbelief and disobedience
o Bright Providences (prosperity and success) are not infallible indicators of the favor of God, and Dark Providences (adversity and failure) are not infallible indicators of Divine Displeasure.
o The purpose of Providence will often require a view from heaven to be understood
o What we can always bank on: The Original, Immutable and Righteous Purpose of God will be perfectly served by every twist and turn of Providence, Bright or Dark, Large or Small.
