Our Exalted Messiah

Sermon: Revelation 1:5-7

Introduction:

What did the early church need as it faced persecution? What does the church in China need today? What do you and I need above all else? The answer is the same: they and we need to look to Jesus.

I. This Jesus is the Messiah, sent by the Father and fulfilling the Old Testament prophecy.
A. the Father – cf. Exodus 3:14 --
also Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi

B. the Son – cf. Psalm 89, Isaiah 43, Daniel 7:13,
            Zechariah 12:10 – 

       C. the Spirit – cf. Isaiah 11:2ff, Zech 4:2-7 --

II. Gaze deeply at the Messiah, Jesus Christ.
How? Notice the description –
A. v. 5 – “faithful witness”

B. v. 4 – “firstborn of the dead”

   	C. v. 5 – “ruler of the kings of the earth”

D. v. 5 – “loves us”

E. v. 5 – “has freed us from our sins by His blood”

F. v. 7 – “is coming”

G. v. 7 – “with the clouds”
