Urging You to Believe

Politics is too small a subject to do justice to the pulpit. So is self-esteem, getting rich or healthy, or self-help. Preaching is glorious, personal and urgent. The blame for preaching that doesn't engage you is often not rightly directed toward the preacher. Paul places a huge weight upon the hearer too, who listens critically and has already made up his mind that he will not benefit from it. Preaching about preaching; that is what this sermon is all about. And preaching is a central feature in the church whom we serve.
