Responsibility to God's Word
Series The Word of God
This message centers on three issues - the character of God's Word, the responsibility of those who minister God's Word (individually and corporately) and the responsibility of those who hear the Word.
The character of God's Word reflects the character of Him who gave it. That means it is unchanging, sufficient, and powerful to save, to effect, sustain and nourish spiritual growth. Because the very character of God is revealed through it, every detail shall come to pass exactly as God has said. It is in the addition of man's philosophy, ideas and opinions to it, that it becomes nullified and ineffective. 'The pure milk of the Word' is eternally sufficient to satisfy and nourish the believers heart and mind.
Just as God doesn't change, neither does the responsibility of God's people to, and with, His Word change.
There is also great responisibility as hearers of the Word. Familiarity to the Word can present a danger if we become callous to it. The Word itself warns us not become a hearer who does not allow it to transform us. This can happen when we are not listening sincerely and humbly, when we are not listening to feed our souls with it. We can satisfy that appetite with spiritual 'junk food' that appeals to our desires and is centered on us, rather than on the God of the Word. Getting tired of God's Word means we have gotten tired of the God of the Word!
