The Practice of Fasting
Series Prayer
As we approach our Prayer Service before the commencement of the growing season, it is good to consider that such days used to be done nationally, and that other days of prayer would be called in times of national emergency. Such days were often termed Public Solemn Fasting. We see examples of this in the Scriptures, and it was a practice that we also saw in the various nations after the Reformation. Fasting amongst Reformed Christians has become almost a lost practice in recent decades. Some might think it a Romish practice, and others a legalism to be avoided, and yet it is thoroughly Biblical, also for the New Testament Church:
