Chpt 4: Serving Strategy to Lead Like Jesus. Audio Book
Series NT Church Dynamics, Audio Book
Contrasting the authority of secular political leaders with that of church leaders, Jesus said: "The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and those in authority over them are called benefactors. But not so with you. Rather, let the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as one who serves" (Lk 22:25–26). How much authority does the youngest person in a family have? How much authority does a household servant have over his employer? Jesus was a master of hyperbole, but there is an underlying truth that must not be glossed over: Pastors are to be servant leaders. Their attitude should be one of humility in leadership, not kingly authority that lords it over others. Pastors must lead with a servant's heart. In harmony with Jesus' words, Peter instructed elders to "shepherd the flock of God … not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock" (1Pt 5:1–3).
