From Below or From Above

The sermon title is From Below or From Above. And what we want to see from the text this morning is essentially that your origin determines your destiny. You go to where you're from. Your origin determines your destiny. So, beginning in verse 21, Jesus said to them again, I am going away and you will seek me and will die in your sin. Where I go, you cannot come. He says, I am going away. So is he, is he just leaving town? Is he removing himself from their immediate presence?
Well, no, you all know the context tells us it's something much more weighty than that. This is, as Brunner notes, Jesus' imminent death, resurrection, and departure. It's His death, resurrection, and departure. The determination and certainty that Jesus speaks with is consistent, as we've already learned from this gospel. It's consistent with what we've already addressed and heard. He goes of His own volition, in His own time, to give Himself as a ransom for His people
