Jesus, The 1st of God's Ways
Series Lessons From Job
Here at the end of this great trial God wants to speak to Job about Behemoth in these verses. And it will be good if we can ask ourselves the reason "why". Why does God want to speak to Job about this amazing creature? The reason that He does so is found in verse 19. It is because, as God Himself says, He is the first of the ways of God, and only God Himself can bring His sword. And so, this phrase that I want to open up – He is the first of the ways of God. And in doing so, I want to ask this question: In what sense does this great and powerful and beautiful and awful creature show forth God's ways. I think that for us who live in New Testament times and who know of Christ's glory and His greatness, there is a comparison which we can reverently make between Behemoth and our Lord Jesus Christ. 1st – He is the 1st of the ways of God in His spiritual strength. 2nd – He is the 1st of the ways of God in that only He, the One who made the Lord Jesus, in terms of His humanity, can bring near His sword to Him. And 3rd – He is the 1st of the ways of God in that He was confident, even though the waters of God's judgment gushed into His mouth, He could take it in with His eyes, and be led by wicked men to the cross and pierced through for our sakes.
