Faith and Discipleship

Theme: Acting on genuine faith in obedience to Christ accomplishes hard things for God you did not think were possible. In v. 5, after hearing Jesus's teaching on forgiveness, the apostles ask Him to increase their faith. As the disciples did, we need to recognize our insufficiency to live the Christian life in our own strength. In v. 6, we see the Lord's response of faith's power. Even small faith is powerful when it is placed in God. We learn from this that we need to obey and depend on God's grace. God has called us to do some hard things. But if we recognize our inadequacy, have faith in Him, and simply obey what He has called us to do, we can live a life as a devoted follower of Christ.
