Do Not Be Grieved: Necessity of Joy in Christian Life

The people were grieved when the law was read and they recognized the failure of their ancestors and themselves. Yet they were directed to not grieve for it was a day to celebrate God's mercy and grace to them. They had returned from captivity. Joy is founded in God and His promises and so it can exist regardless of present circumstances.
